Living in Alvesta means being in the heart of southern Sweden. It is a place where Småland’s forests and lakes meet the countryside, characterized by entrepreneurship and opportunities for an active leisure life.
At the same time, everything you need is nearby, and good transports make it easy to travel both within Sweden and to Europe.
Alvesta Municipality has just under 20,000 residents, many of whom live in one of our towns: Alvesta, Moheda, Vislanda, Grimslöv, Torpsbruk, Hjortsberga, Lidnäs, Torne, and Lönashult.
Ralf – a Dutch expat in Småland
Ralf Fleuren moved to Moheda just outside Alvesta with his family in 2023.
”After our journey through Småland, we felt that Moheda had just the right balance: close to nature, a safe and secure environment for the children, and with Växjö only half an hour away.
Today, the children are thriving, we’ve made wonderful friends, and we’re able to work internationally from distance while also building our businesses here at home.”

Today, Ralf shares in Dutch how he managed to settle in Sweden, including through his own podcast, Fika Fleuren.

In Alvesta, you have the opportunity to live in the way that suits you best. You can find housing in a central location close to services, schools, and public transport — or choose a quieter setting with more space in the countryside.
You can buy your own house through real estate agents and other websites that offer homes on the private market. If you prefer to build your own home, the municipality offers residential plots for sale in several of our urban areas as well as in rural locations.
If you would rather rent, our municipal housing company AllboHus offers apartments in various sizes and locations.

Education with care and quality
In Sweden, preschool is available for children from the age of one, and compulsory school starts at age six and continues through lower and upper secondary levels. The schools are complemented by municipal after-school care, where children can be after school hours while their parents are at work.
Alvesta Municipality invests in children’s learning, safety, and health — both during and outside school hours. Our school meals are nutritious, sustainable, and prepared close to the children, and have received several awards for their quality.
The schools provide school health services to support pupils’ development and well-being. In addition, the municipal school of arts offers activities in music, theatre, dance, and visual arts, allowing children to develop creativity and interests beyond the classroom.

An active life together
In Alvesta, you and your family can enjoy an active and meaningful life together. Many dedicated volunteer clubs and associations offer a wide range of activities for children and young people.
Surrounded by beautiful nature, you can also take advantage of Sweden’s right of public access (Allemansrätten), which allows everyone to freely explore forests, lakes, and countryside while respecting nature.
